Gyms. They are typically all similar based on the price point you pay. Some have better amenities or newer equipment, but in general its a mixed bag of the same. Innovation isn’t a strong suit for this industry.
Then comes an establishment like Midtown Athletic Club. With a handful of locations around North America, this set of “gyms” is about 20 steps above the rest. I had the opportunity to get involved with their Chicago flagship location which also happens to have a great hotel attached.
So what does a hospitality & entertainment creative do to help out a place like Midtown? We create a app that lives in their spin studio. The goal of the app was to bring the same synchronized technology from concerts & nightclubs to a small studio. Something easy the instructors could turn on & have a full production class that worked with their music, with out the full production team on-site every time.
The project took over a year & is always evolving. It’s been a unique experience to partner with my friends at Empyre Strikes Back & build something like this.
After the launch of this app, we took on the task of supporting their AV at their Chicagoland locations. This entails making sure each studio is running smoothly & effectively, something that a lot of fitness facilities overlook.
